A gift that keeps showing up when support usually fades.

A phone beside an open journal and cup of tea in warm evening light

For the friend who does not know what to say

Flowers fade. The quiet months keep coming.

Most support gathers around the funeral. Then the meals stop, the calls thin out, and everyone assumes the worst part must be over.

The Judah Project is built for the eleven months after that. It lets you give something that keeps arriving without asking them to reply, explain, cheer up, or perform being okay.

What they receive

One short note a day, written for where grief actually is.

Some days carry Scripture. Some do not. Every note is short enough for a hard morning, a late night, or the moment they finally open their phone.

Day 1the first weeks

You do not have to be okay today

The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

Psalm 34:18

There is nothing you need to do with this. You do not have to feel better after reading it, or feel anything at all.

Notice what the verse does not say. It does not say God is near to the ones handling it well, or that he waits at a distance until you pull yourself together. He is near to the broken-hearted. Near to them there, in the wreckage, before anything is fixed.

There is nothing to earn. You are not behind. You are not doing this wrong.

All that is asked of you today is to still be here.

We will be back tomorrow, and every day for a year — long after the calls stop coming.

Day 2the first weeks

Nothing is asked of you today

Somebody will ask how you are doing today. You will say fine. That is not a lie — it is a kindness you are doing them, because the real answer is too heavy to hand a person standing in a doorway.

You do not have to say fine here.

There is no lesson in this one. No verse to hold on to, nothing to take away and apply. Only a note from somebody who knows it is day two — and who knows that the arrangements are not the same thing as the grief, and that the grief has barely started.

Eat something today if you can.

That is all.

Day 77when it becomes real

My bones are vexed

Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed. My soul is also sore vexed: but thou, O LORD, how long?

Psalm 6:2-3

Bones. Not feelings — bones. The deepest, most structural part of a body.

Grief in the third month often stops being an emotion and becomes physical. A weight in the chest. An ache in the jaw. Exhaustion sleep does not touch. Getting sick more, because prolonged stress lowers immunity.

None of that is imagination. It is measurable.

So take this seriously: see a doctor if you have not. Tell them what happened and when. Grief affects blood pressure, sleep and the heart, and doctors know it.

Getting medical help is not a failure of faith. David prays heal me, and the healing he is asking for is bodily.

Look after the frame you are carrying this in.

Day 213the long middle

The long middle

Nothing is happening.

That is the defining feature of this stretch and nobody warns you about it. There is no crisis to respond to, no anniversary to brace for, no funeral to organise. There is also no improvement. Just day after grey day.

People assume you are through it. The messages stopped months ago. Nobody asks any more, and if they did you would not know what to say, because nothing has changed and nothing is wrong exactly.

This is the loneliest part of the year. Not the most painful — the loneliest.

There is nothing to fix here and no advice that fits. We are just going to keep showing up in it with you.

Day 365coming up to the year

One year

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Psalm 23:6

One year.

On day one we said the only thing asked of you was to still be here. You are. That was the assignment and you completed it.

You have survived the fog, the abandonment, the anger, the guilt, the flat middle, the ambushes and the anniversary. You did not do it well. Nobody does. You did it.

Goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life. Including the three hundred and sixty-five just gone, when you could not see either and they were behind you the whole time.

This is the last message. Tomorrow nothing arrives, and that is all right.

You are not being dropped. You are being sent on, carrying them with you.

Go gently. We were glad to walk it with you.

5 days from the year, exactly as they arrive.

Giving it is simple, and they stay in control.

  1. 1

    You give the gift

Pay once, add their name, and include a short personal note if you want.

  2. 2

    They receive an invitation

It simply says someone was thinking of them and explains the year of messages.

  3. 3

    They decide the rest

Nothing starts until they choose when and how they want it to arrive.

A year that changes with grief

Not the same message twelve months in a row.

The messages move through twelve seasons, from shock and numbness to the first anniversary and the changed life after it.

Week one

When words are smallest

Short, quiet notes for the days when reading much is too much.

Months two to five

After everyone returns to normal

Steady encouragement for the lonely stretch people rarely see.

The long middle

When grief goes quiet

Messages that do not rush them, fix them, or ask them to be okay.

The first anniversary

When the calendar remembers

Care that keeps arriving as the hard dates come back around.

Their pace, their choice

They decide whether this begins, and when.

What you buy is an invitation, not a subscription in their name. It waits until they open it and say they are ready. If that takes them a month, it waits a month.

The price stays between you and us. We never text a number you hand us either. If they would rather have the notes on their phone, they add it themselves.

And on any day of the year they can pause it, or set it down for good, without explaining why to anyone.

Show a loved one you care, every day for a year.

You do not need the perfect words. $29.99 once gives them all 365 days of not being alone, and nothing begins until they say yes.
